TROUBLE SOLUTIONS
INTERNET CONNECTION: First and foremost, you should be connected to the Internet with a hi-speed connection, rather than a dial-up connection. Why? Cable is 60 times faster than Dial-up. What would take 5 minutes to transfer on Dial-up, only takes 5 seconds with Cable. Talk about HI SPEED; that's it!
The files on all TekEd Music sites are huge and take quite some time to load. Sorry, gang, but this is the case. Since the technology of Internet access is currently within the mega-bits per second realm, we are taking advantage of it by offering our guests better pictures, better sound files, and bit-streaming video segments (including live broadcast of selected events). These are elements that are simply not acceptable inclusions in pages destined to be viewed with a dial-up connection.
If you are continuing to use dial-up, perhaps this site is not for you, unless you have lots of time.
TEXT SIZE: If you have your text size set at MEDIUM, then you have it set at the same size we used in developing our Web pages. To check this, click on VIEW, then click on TEXT SIZE. If the size is not MEDIUM and if you want to see our Web pages as they are meant to be seen, then click on MEDIUM, otherwise leave it alone.
ODD TEXT: Are you experiencing odd characters that are out of place or don't make any sense in their context? Check to be sure you have the True Type font that was used to develop the Web site. If not, let us know, and we will email the font to you. See the list at the end of this file the True Type Fonts used in our Web pages.
SCREEN RESOLUTION: Most Web sites are designed using the 800x600 pixel format. We have designed our TekEd Music sites with the same format in mind. If your browser supports 'frames' then the need to adjust your browser window is unnecessary; we have done it for you by displaying our pages in the properly sized frame in your browser window.
If your browser does NOT support
frames, we have a guage at the top of the window. The guage looks like the
following illustration →
|-----------------------------------------------------| When you see this
guage, it should fit on ONE line with the ends barely
inside the right and left frames of the window. This bring me to another
hint, your Internet Browser window should be in 'reduced window mode' not
'full screen mode.' If you look at the upper right corner of THIS
window it should look like this →
. If it looks like this →
, then click on the box between the [-] and the [x]. This will put the
window into the proper mode for adjusting the width dynamically.
To adjust the window width, simple place the cursor over the outer border of either side border, click and hold the mouse button, and slide the border so the guage just barely fits between the sides of the window (without wrapping or leaving too much space between the end of the guage and the border).
IMAGES OR MUSIC NOT LOADING: This is a problem for some of you due to the security setting of your Firewall or settings within the Program Control section of your Firewall software. Unless you are used to adjusting these settings, do not attempt to do so without first reading about these settings and understanding how changes can affect the security of your computer.
Basically, the security software we have tested all have settings to block pop-up ads and animated Web page content. These setting can be changed to allow pop-ups and animation from selected sites or to prompt you to allow such from selected sites on a case by case basis.
The question here is, are these settings preventing features of our Web sites from being exhibited on YOUR computer? If you don't know for sure, then you should seek help from someone you trust to adjust these settings. We are not the only Web hosts who have received reports from viewers about such symptoms. As security takes over more and more of our computers, the problem will only be exacerbated -- knowing how to regain command of what your computer shows and doesn't show will be VERY HELPFUL information in the future - not only for our sites NOW, to other sites now and in the future.
COLOR AND RESOLUTION: This is an interesting subject. All the designing in the world goes down the drain if the receiving computer suffers from poor setup practices where resolution and color are concerned. Be sure to run color and clarity analysis routines on your monitor to precisely set the gamma of your display and the focus of your CRT. LCD screens do not use 'focus' settings. The gamma, or color indexing, of your video display can be adjusted on most computers. It is a matter of matching strips of color in order to optimize what colors are being presented and whether or not they are true. 90% of all computers we have tested on have factory settings that are quite adequate and accurate; further adjustments to these are not necessary.
If, after applying the solutions above, you are still experiencing problems with the output of our Web site pages on your computer, email us and we will try to assist you with a fix. mailto:mrraymiller@hotmail.com
True Type Fonts used: If you don't have the fonts listed below installed on your system, odd characters or 'default' font characters will be used in the place of any of the missing fonts; things just won't look right. Send an email to Ray Miller and he will email you the fonts you need. The advantages here are that you would gain new fonts, be able to use them yourselves for your purposes, AND view the TekEdMusic Web pages as they are meant to be viewed. (Note: The term OpenType refers to fonts that are typically supplied with some of the software you are running on your computer. The OpenType fonts are most likely TrueType fonts anyhow.)
